Immigration help in Los Angeles Green cards, citizenship and court
Los Angeles County has several USCIS field offices and three non-detained immigration courts, so the first local question is usually which office or courtroom your case actually belongs to. Offices, courts and free help in Los Angeles County
01
USCIS field offices
USCIS runs more than one field office in Los Angeles County. Interviews are assigned by your ZIP code, and the exact office is printed on your appointment notice. Use the USCIS locator rather than an old address you found online.
EOIR lists Los Angeles courts on N. Los Angeles Street downtown, on Van Nuys Boulevard and in West Los Angeles. People held at the Adelanto detention facility in San Bernardino County usually appear before the Adelanto Immigration Court instead.
The county office points residents to free or low-cost legal help, know-your-rights material and county services, and warns about immigration services fraud.
The Los Angeles Superior Court runs self-help services for family, name change and other state court matters. State court records, such as criminal dispositions or a divorce judgment, often matter in an immigration case.
With three non-detained immigration courts in Los Angeles alone, people sometimes go to the wrong building. Your Notice to Appear and every later hearing notice name the court and address. Before each hearing, check EOIR's Automated Case Information portal with your A-number, because a hearing can be moved or reset. If you move, you must file Form EOIR-33 with the court within five days.
USCIS interviews and state court records
For a marriage green card or naturalization interview, the officer may ask for certified dispositions of any arrest or citation, including old Los Angeles County cases. Order those records from the court before the interview, not after. A record that was dismissed or expunged under California law usually still has to be disclosed on federal immigration forms.
Notario fraud and where to find real help
In many Latin American countries a notario is a legal professional. In California, a notary public cannot give immigration advice. Only licensed attorneys and DOJ-accredited representatives working for recognized organizations may advise you or represent you. Check an attorney's license on the State Bar of California website before you pay anyone.
Demand for free immigration legal help in Los Angeles is high, and nonprofit waitlists can be long. The LA County Office of Immigrant Affairs and the California Department of Social Services both point to funded nonprofit providers, and EOIR publishes a list of pro bono legal service providers for each immigration court. If your case has a hearing date or a filing deadline, say so when you call, because many programs prioritize urgent cases. An independent attorney can also handle a limited task, such as reviewing your records before an interview.

Where will my USCIS interview take place?+
At the field office printed on your interview notice. It depends on your ZIP code, so two people in the same county may be sent to different offices.
Can a notary help me fill out my immigration forms?+
A notary public in California may not give immigration legal advice. For advice, choose a licensed attorney or a DOJ-accredited representative at a recognized organization.
What does the first call cost?+
The first call is free and without obligation. If you want an attorney to take on your matter, the attorney quotes the scope and fee in writing before any work starts.
What happens after I send my request?+
Our intake team reviews your request and gets in touch to clarify it and arrange the call. Sending the form does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not book an appointment.
